Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup, but they are not complacent in their match against Converge FiberXers. According to Coach Tim Cone, the opponent is still dangerous because it has strong big men like Justine Baltazar and Justin Arana.
Ginebra recorded a 98-80 win over Rain or Shine on Sunday to take fourth place. But even though they defeated Converge on May 10 by a score of 85-66, Cone knew this was a different game. He said they will need another big game from Japeth Aguilar, who recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds in their last meeting.
For Cone, they are not thinking about the twice-to-beat advantage. Their focus is just one win on Friday, June 20. "We are not thinking about the Finals yet, but the next game. That's where we will prepare," said Cone.
Aside from the twice-to-beat, Ginebra also carries the momentum from their 3 straight wins against Magnolia, TNT, and Rain or Shine. They intend to continue their winning streak to advance to the semis.
The game against Converge is important, especially if they want to get a ticket to the semifinals right away.
