OFW Rome Pagkanlungan painfully remembered the loss of his wife, Nerissa, in a tragic car attack in Vancouver, Canada on April 26. Nerissa was one of eleven people killed after an SUV plowed into a Filipino community gathering. According to Rome, the day was supposed to be a happy one until they were suddenly hit by a car.
"You know it wasn't an accident, it was intentional," said Rome. He saw the car approaching and in a few moments, everything was in chaos. He was also hit but he immediately stood up and saw his wife unconscious. Nerissa had no wounds or blood, so he still hoped she could be saved. But after a few minutes of CPR, the doctors stopped resuscitating her.
Rome still can't believe what happened. According to him, he's not angry at the suspect, but he's focused on the Lord. He believes everything happens for a reason. But he prays for justice for all the victims.
Nerissa's remains have been brought to the Philippines with government assistance. She will be buried in Cavite this coming Thursday.
Nerissa is Rome's high school sweetheart. In his message, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his wife: “Thank you for 30 years of love. I promise, I will be strong for the family. I love you so much.”
