A massive fire broke out in a row of houses along Ermin Garcia St., Brgy. E. Rodriguez, Quezon City on Monday afternoon. According to Fire Senior Superintendent Rodrigo Reyes, District Fire Marshall of Quezon City, the fire was immediately raised to fourth alarm, and approximately 90 fire trucks responded to control it.
Five people suffered minor injuries, such as cuts and fainting, but no one was killed in the incident. The BFP is still investigating the possible origin of the fire, which is said to have started in a two-story house.
Based on initial reports from Brgy. E. Rodriguez, an estimated 200 families were displaced by the fire. One of those affected, Diana Laraha, said she was unable to save any belongings, including those of her granddaughter. The rapid spread of the fire was caused by the wooden materials of the houses.
Authorities are still assessing the total damage and the number of houses burned. Reyes reminded everyone to be careful and work together to prevent this type of incident. Affected residents are being prepared for evacuation centers to find temporary shelter.
