A 33-year-old woman was blocked at NAIA Terminal 3 by Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel after she attempted to leave the country using a fake marriage certificate. The woman had planned to go to Nigeria ostensibly to visit her Nigerian “husband”, but it was quickly discovered that the document was fake and there was no real marriage.
When questioned, the woman admitted that her real intention was to work as a nanny in Nigeria, in exchange for a salary of P35,000 per month. She allegedly obtained the fake documents from an online agent offering a shortcut.
According to BI Commissioner Joel Viado, their campaign against illegal recruitment and human trafficking is continuing to protect Filipinos who want to work abroad. The public was also reminded to be extra careful of online scams.
