The actress and Barangay Captain of Longos, Malabon, Angelika Dela Cruz is now facing serious charges before the Ombudsman, while running as vice mayor in the upcoming elections. One of the complaints is the plunder case allegedly worth more than P70 million from the barangay funds.
The complaints filed against Angelika also include 62 counts of malversation, 18 counts of failure to render accounts, and illegal use of public funds. There are also 64 counts of violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (RA 3019), related to missing items, unclear expenses, and abuse of barangay funds.
There are also administrative complaints against him such as alleged neglect of duty, frequent absences without leave, and the unauthorized turnover of the job to his brother Erick Dela Cruz, who is a barangay kagawad. Erick was also charged with grave misconduct, while the barangay treasurer is also charged with illegal use of public funds.
Angelika released a statement on Facebook on April 28, where she called it political harassment. She said, “politics is really bad... if they don't get what they want, they will discredit you and then they will sue you.”
Right now, the public's eyes are focused on the issue, especially as the midterm elections are approaching. Many are waiting to see what the actress's next move will be in the midst of the controversy.
