A woman was injured after she was hit by an ambulance on Batasan–San Mateo Road, Quezon City, past 6 a.m. on January 26. According to reports, the ambulance belonged to the barangay and was on its way to transport a patient to the hospital when the incident occurred.
In the photos that have been circulating online, the moment of the hit can be seen while the victim was crossing the street. It was learned that the ambulance counterflowed on the road, causing the victim to not immediately notice the oncoming vehicle.
The victim, Princess, shared that she was on her way home from the market when the accident occurred. She said she thought the ambulance would not pass in her lane and that she was in a blind spot so she did not see it. She was immediately taken into an ambulance and rushed to the nearest hospital for first aid.
Meanwhile, the driver, Manuel Busto Jr., explained that he was being treated for an emergency following a separate collision when he suddenly heard a loud impact on the side of the ambulance. He assured that all expenses for the victim's treatment were covered and that contact with his family was ongoing.
The barangay will undergo an assessment of the driver to ensure his ability to drive the ambulance in emergency situations. For now, the victim is said to have no plans to file a complaint, while authorities continue to remind people to drive and cross roads carefully for everyone's safety.
