PETA on Wednesday called for caution when handling animals, especially pythons or snakes, after a video of an unusual incident in Davao City went viral.
A viral video shows a giant python being dragged, twisted, and slammed onto the pavement in the middle of the road, leaving onlookers shocked. According to PETA, this treatment is insensitive and against proper animal welfare.
“We are horrified by the video footage of a Davao python being mistreated and harshly handled,” PETA said in a statement. They added that Philippine pythons are known to be shy and non-dangerous, so they should be treated with care and respect.
They hope that trained authorities will rescue it and return it to its proper habitat to avoid danger to both animals and humans. The incident occurred in Brgy. Cabantian, where traffic on the road was stopped due to the presence of the snake.
In the video, a man can be seen fearlessly pulling the python's tail, twisting it, and slamming it into the concrete. Although the animal did not bite, PETA warns that this situation should be addressed with caring and professional rescue, not violent action.
