The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported 23 Chinese allegedly involved in illegal POGO and cyber fraud. According to the BI, the operation is linked to the new anti-POGO law, which imposes harsher penalties and stricter controls on illegal gaming and scam hubs.
Alexi Val Arciaga, chief of the BI deportation unit, said the group boarded a Philippine Airlines flight from NAIA Terminal 1 bound for Shanghai. The Chinese have deportation orders for violating immigration laws and engaging in POGO-like activities, fraud, and being wanted criminals in China.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that their expulsion is a demonstration of the administration's compliance with President Marcos' order to ensure the country is safe from foreigners involved in illegal activities.
He also said that while there are illegal online gaming and scam hubs, arrests and deportations continue. He added that the BI will ensure that violators of the law are immediately removed from the country.
