
Vice President Sara Duterte's statement has reignited political tensions after she said that President Marcos is facing a crisis of trust. According to her, investigations into corruption in flood control projects are lacking clear direction and lacking action. He also mentioned the issue of the huge budget loss that allegedly occurred during the President's tenure.
Malacañang responded to this, saying that Duterte himself should explain the corruption issues while he was at DepEd. According to Undersecretary Claire Castro, one should not pretend to be “clean” if there are issues that have not yet been resolved.
Duterte added that he understands the public's anger and disappointment because after months of investigation, no charges have been filed. He also said that he has long been listening to the OFWs' complaints about transparency and accountability.
He continued by saying that many are disillusioned with the government due to insecurity and excessive greed. For him, the right to speak and express oneself is an important part of democracy.
Finally, Castro asserted that Duterte lacks the credibility to demand accountability because of allegations of confidential funds, ghost students, and ghost food packs that occurred under his leadership.
