The King of Pop Michael Jackson made history by becoming the first artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 in six different decades. His hit song “Thriller” re-entered the No. 10 this November 15, after its streaming surged during Halloween.
Jackson, who died in 2009, reached the Top 10 in the 1970s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s — a record that surpassed Andy Williams’ previous record of just five decades. His Top 10 journey began in 1971 with the song “Got To Be There.” In total, MJ has 30 Top 10 hits and 13 No. 1 songs.
The resurgence of “Thriller” was driven by a 57% increase in online streams during Halloween, reaching 14 million streams. In addition, the song's radio airplay also increased. As a result, “Thriller” is now the longest-running on the Hot 100 chart of his career — 26 weeks, longer than “Billie Jean” and “Beat It.”
It is estimated that if Jackson earns ₱840 million from streams and royalties this year, it is proof that his music is still alive in every generation.
Listen again to “Thriller” and experience why it continues to bring fear and excitement even after decades.
