NBA star Kevin Durant has signed a new two-year, ₱5.3 billion (equivalent to $90 million) contract with the Houston Rockets. As a result, he now has the highest career earnings in NBA history.
Durant's total career earnings, including past and future salaries, have now reached nearly ₱35.3 billion ($598.2 million). With this record, he surpassed LeBron James' ₱34.5 billion ($583.9 million).
Durant chose to take a lower salary than the maximum he could have earned. Instead of ₱7 billion ($120 million), he agreed to ₱5.3 billion ($90 million). He gave up almost ₱1.8 billion ($30 million) to give the Rockets salary cap flexibility.
The move demonstrates his dedication to the team. At 37, Durant has opted for the opportunity to work with the Rockets to further strengthen their lineup. He plans to finish his career with Houston, adding another title to his colorful basketball legacy.
