The first MICHELIN Guide of the Philippines will be officially launched on October 30, featuring select restaurants in Manila, Cebu, and neighboring provinces. It aims to showcase the wealth of Filipino culinary identity, traditions, and talent.
Each selected restaurant was evaluated by anonymous inspectors using five global criteria: ingredient quality, cooking skill, flavor blend, chef personality, and food consistency.
During the evening of celebration, the Bib Gourmand Selection and Special Awards will also be presented to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the industry. There will also be a premium cocktail reception prepared by chefs from various MICHELIN-starred restaurants.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, said that their inspectors have been monitoring the growth of the Filipino culinary scene for a long time. They believe that this recognition will help to better recognize Filipino cuisine around the world.
The MICHELIN Guide was first created in 1900 in France to help motorists. Later, it became a symbol of the best dining award. Today, one MICHELIN star represents a “very good restaurant,” two for “cooking worth going to,” and three for a “unique experience worth visiting.”
