President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed six new laws declaring special working and non-working holidays in various areas of the country.
Under Republic Act 12248, every June 15 shall be a special non-working holiday in General Santos City in commemoration of its charter anniversary.
Two cities will celebrate a special working holiday: Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte on March 7 for its foundation day (RA 12246) and San Juan City on August 30 to commemorate the Battle of Pinaglabanan (RA 12250).
Three other places will also have special working holidays: Bansalan, Davao del Sur on September 18 for the foundation anniversary (RA 12247), Balayan, Batangas on June 24 for the famous “Lechon Parade” (RA 12249), and San Mateo, Rizal every September 21 as San Mateo Town Day (RA 12251).
According to the law, special working holidays can also be converted into special non-working holidays if proclaimed by the President. The new laws were signed on August 29 and will take effect 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
