The P14 billion worth of flood control projects in Manila are being investigated after they failed to address severe flooding in the city. According to Mayor Isko Moreno, more than 200 projects from 2022 to 2025 have been completed, but Manila continues to be flooded.
Moreno said the projects allegedly did not have permits from the local government. He added, “Funds for flood control have been allocated, but the people of Manila continue to suffer.”
Moreno also shared the breakdown of the amount per district: District 1 – ₱3.4B, District 2 – ₱2.059B, District 3 – ₱4.2B, District 4 – ₱1.3B, District 5 – ₱1.1B, and District 6 – ₱2.06B....
The mayor clarified that the aforementioned are old projects. There are 112 new flood control projects that are currently being implemented, but they also do not have the appropriate permits and do not pay regulatory fees and contractor tax to the local government.
The investigation is ongoing to determine why these projects were not effective despite spending huge amounts of funds.
