‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ is now officially the sixth best-selling video game worldwide, after reaching 77 million copies in total sales. According to their earnings report, an additional 4 million copies were sold in the last quarter. For the past seven years, it has also been the best-selling game in the U.S. based on total revenue.
The entire Red Dead franchise has sold over 104 million copies worldwide. On the list of best-selling games, it surpassed Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow for sixth place. It is only surpassed by Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, Ark: Survival Evolved, Wii Sports, Grand Theft Auto V, and Minecraft.
RDR 2 was released in October 2018, eight years after the first game. It served as a prequel and followed the story of Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as the Wild West era gradually faded in the U.S. In its first weekend of release, it earned ₱42.4 billion (equivalent to $725 million), quickly surpassing the total sales of the first Red Dead Redemption in just two weeks.
The game received praise from critics and players and won over 175 Game of the Year awards. To this day, it continues to sell well and is popular worldwide.
