A senior citizen couple in Quezon City were robbed of their P6,000 pension after being tricked by a woman outside a printing shop in Barangay Commonwealth. The woman was even captured on CCTV as she slowly snatched the victim's wallet from her red bag.
The 71-year-old woman said that a woman approached them and said that a congressman was giving away free rice. She even made them sign a paper and asked for their ID, supposedly for a photocopy, but she didn't realize that her wallet had been snatched.
According to the victim's wife, they waited for six months for that pension, which they hoped would be used for their family's daily expenses and medical treatment. "That P6,000 is very important because my wife is sick and our son is undergoing dialysis," he said.
The Barangay Kagawad added that someone had previously been victimized in the same manner. Someone returned the wallet of another senior citizen but the money was gone. Authorities are now searching for the suspect, who may not be a resident of Barangay Commonwealth.
Officials remind senior citizens: be careful and don't just trust. When collecting pension or aid, it is better to have a relative or acquaintance accompany you to avoid such incidents.
