The tragedy occurred in Bryansk, a region in Russia near the border with Ukraine. A bridge gave way and collapsed onto the railway tracks, causing an oncoming train to veer off course and derail.
According to Alexander Bogomaz, governor of Bryansk, 44 people were hospitalized, including 3 children, one of whom was in serious condition. One of the fatalities was the train driver, according to reports by Russian state news agencies.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they immediately dispatched 180 rescue personnel to assist in the area. Operations are ongoing to rescue and care for the injured.
It should be noted that there is a history of tension in the region, especially after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, followed by the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Despite the ongoing war, the focus now remains on the safety of the victims of the incident.
