The Department of Health (DOH) has stated that face masks are not effective against measles because it is not airborne. According to DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo, face masks are useless if you are still going to kiss or hug, because the virus spreads through skin-to-skin or mouth-to-mouth contact.
Mpox is a viral infection that causes rashes, fever, body aches, and fatigue. It is spread through close physical contact, such as kissing, hugging, or having sex. Even if there is no sexual contact, as long as there is skin contact, it is possible to get infected.
DOH also reminded that mpox is not a sexually transmitted disease, but it is still dangerous especially for those with multiple sexual partners. It can also be caught from contaminated items such as bedding, clothing, or tattoo equipment.
No lockdown will be implemented due to mpox, according to the DOH. Although there is an increase in cases, it is still lower than in 2024. All cases in the country are Clade II, the milder and less contagious type of mpox.
