A 10-year-old boy died after being bitten by a crab while swimming at a resort in Barangay Penitan, Siruma, Camarines Sur. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, while the family was on a beach outing. According to witnesses, while the children were swimming, the crab suddenly bit them on various parts of their bodies, causing them to scream in pain and call for help.
When the 10-year-old was pulled from the water, he was unconscious. He was rushed to a medical facility but died on arrival. His injured companion was taken to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City for further treatment.
According to authorities and resort management, they have reminded the public about the dangerous crabs in the area, especially during the April to June season when they are usually found. People are advised to wash the bitten part of the body with vinegar, remove the tentacles using tweezers, and immerse the injured part in warm water to relieve the pain. They should also consult a doctor immediately if the sting is severe or if there is an allergic reaction.
