China to Make AI Mandatory in Schools by 2025

Starting September 2025, AI education will be mandatory for all students in primary and secondary schools in China. This includes at least 8 hours per year of formal lessons—starting with basic AI topics in elementary school, then moving on to real-world applications and AI ethics in high school.

For some, it seems weird to teach children about AI. But for me, this is a smart move by China. Because it's true—if you don't keep up with technology, you'll be left behind. It's like evolution, but instead of species, what's changing are algorithms and data.

What's cool here is, it's not just coding that's taught—it also includes AI ethics, proper use, and boundaries. Things that even adults find difficult to handle. In other countries, there are also efforts—like Italy with optional AI lessons, and California and New York with pilot programs. But China, all-in right away.

This is how they are staying ahead of the tech curve. While others are still debating how to manage AI, they, are teaching the new generation how to use it properly. Because at the end of the day, AI is just a tool—it depends on the user whether it will be helpful or harmful. So, let's keep an eye on this. Maybe we should join in too.
