A Minecraft Movie was a huge box office success, earning $58 million USD in North America on its first day of release, including preview screenings. The film had the biggest opening day of 2025, beating Captain America: Brave New World which earned $40.9 million USD. It is considered the biggest box office opening since Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
The film is expected to gross $70 million to $80 million USD in its opening weekend. The North American market hasn't seen this kind of success since Moana 2 last November. A Minecraft Movie also has a good chance of surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $146 million USD gross, and setting the record for the biggest 3-day opening for a video game film.
The film, which had a production budget of $150 million USD, earned a B+ rating on CinemaScore. In its first weekend alone, it is the second highest-grossing film in the domestic market this year. The film features Jack Black and Jason Momoa, along with Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
Despite its opening-day success, it's unclear how much more the film will earn in international markets. However, A Minecraft Movie is sure to continue its success, as it remains at the top of the box office. It leads Disney’s Snow White and Universal’s The Woman in the Yard, both of which are in lower positions.
The film is a major step forward for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, which developed the film after more than 10 years of development.
