The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) of the Philippines has confirmed that the driver of the young student who was kidnapped recently is not innocent. According to DILG Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr., the police obtained evidence from the driver's cell phone that shows his connection with the kidnappers.
In the investigation, it was discovered that there were calls and chat records between the driver and the kidnappers. Abalos said, "There is an exchange of messages on his cell phone that proves that he had a crime plan. It is possible that the kidnappers killed him to hide the evidence."
The victim's mother denied that their family had any connection with the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO). According to him, their business is e-commerce and has nothing to do with gambling.
He added that the kidnappers were wearing police uniforms when the incident happened, so they were not immediately suspected. It is also said that their driver may have been a target because he likes to post on social media about his luxurious lifestyle, which may have attracted the attention of criminals.
The student was abducted in Parañaque after being picked up from school. A few days later, he was found on Macapagal Avenue in Pasay, while the driver was found dead. The police suspect that he was killed to cut the connection with the kidnappers.
Right now, the authorities are continuing their investigation and they are calling on the public to immediately report any information that can help catch those behind the crime.
