BMW Introduces Test Vehicle With 13,269 Lb-Ft Torque

BMW introduces the “Vision Driving Experience,” a test vehicle designed to test the limits of driving dynamics and energy efficiency. Although it will not be released into production, it serves as a rolling laboratory for future generations of Neue Klasse models, particularly testing the “Heart of Joy” – an innovative drivetrain and dynamics control unit.

Tested at the BMW Performance Driving Center in Spartanburg, U.S., the Vision Driving Experience shows how the Heart of Joy enhances electric mobility. This system processes data ten times faster than previous versions, providing precise control over acceleration, braking, steering, and energy recuperation. Developed by BMW itself, the Heart of Joy is one of the four main computing units of Neue Klasse vehicles and will be part of future BMW EVs.

Heart of Joy improves driving with BMW Dynamic Performance Control, which provides consistent traction and handling even in extreme conditions. With a staggering 18,000 Nm (13,269 lb-ft) of torque, the test vehicle demonstrates this system's ability to handle tremendous power while remaining stable and precise in motion.

Moreover, it boosts energy efficiency through integrated energy recuperation, which reduces the use of traditional braking. According to BMW, 98 percent of daily braking can be handled by the recuperation system, increasing efficiency by 25 percent and extending the vehicle's range.

Thanks to this innovative technology, acceleration is more refined, turning is more precise, and stopping is almost imperceptible. Vision Driving Experience also has illuminated wheel rims that show real-time feedback on system operation: green for acceleration, blue for recuperation, and orange for conventional braking.

Although the Vision Driving Experience itself will not be released to the market, the Heart of Joy will be launched in the first Neue Klasse model set to be produced at the BMW Debrecen plant in Hungary this year.
