The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested two Chinese nationals in connection with an alleged kidnap-for-ransom in Quezon City, while the victim was successfully rescued in an entrapment operation on February 11, 2026. According to the report, the investigation began after the victim's boyfriend filed a complaint when she went missing and could not be contacted.
Later, the victim contacted her boyfriend online and shared that she was being held against her will. A suspect allegedly took her cellphone and demanded a ₱500,000 ransom in exchange for her freedom. In addition, the victim was also forced to transfer RMB 104,000 or approximately ₱832,000 via online transfer before the ransom was formally requested.
The suspects allegedly showed the victim in a video call with visible bruises on his body, along with a threat to kill or amputate parts of his body if he did not pay immediately. The communication was also transferred to Telegram to avoid close monitoring. According to the chief of the NBI International Operations Division, the suspects are believed to have deviated from such activities after the closure of POGOs, and are also allegedly involved in illegal drugs and online scamming.
During the entrapment, the two suspects were arrested after the marked money was given, and the victim's safe condition was immediately ensured. The NBI is continuing follow-up operations to catch the two other accomplices. Those arrested have been subjected to inquest for a case of Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention, in connection with Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
