Vice President Sara Duterte paid her last respects to former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. during a funeral service held at the Simbaan Ya Bato (Annunciation of the Lord Parish) in Barangay Bonuan Gueset. The former House leader's remains remained there until early Monday morning, as supporters and allies flocked to pay their respects to his memory and contributions to the nation.
On February 14, citizens filled the streets of Dagupan for a solemn procession that carried his remains to the City Plaza. This was followed by a memorial program and the issuance of a city resolution in recognition of his distinguished life and long public service. Among the prominent personalities who visited was former President and current Pampanga representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who also personally paid tribute to the former Speaker.
A memorial Mass will be held at the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag before his remains are transferred to the House of Representatives inside the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. There will be a necrological service at the Plenary Hall where prayers, eulogies from House leaders, and a presentation of his achievements over the decades in politics will be offered. De Venecia, who served as Speaker from 1992 to 2008 for five terms, passed away at the age of 89 on February 10, 2026, and will be buried at the Heroes' Cemetery in Taguig City.
