The Department of the Interior and Local Government has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to expand the search for Charlie “Atong” Ang, following the possibility that he may have left the country. According to the leadership, the move is part of the intensified fugitive tracking to determine his whereabouts.
In a briefing, it was said that the PNP will coordinate with Interpol to verify reports of sightings of Atong Ang in various countries in Southeast Asia. The coordination aims to obtain immediate information and expedite law enforcement cooperation in the region.
A whistleblower previously mentioned that Atong Ang may have left the country in December to avoid arrest in connection with cases of kidnapping and disappearance of sabangero. However, authorities clarified that they are still examining all possibilities.
Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said there was no record of the suspect formally leaving the country based on immigration data, although it acknowledged the challenges of informal exit routes due to the long coastline. In addition, operations were conducted at several properties reported to have been visited by the suspect, but the results were negative.
According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), tracking down an individual with extensive resources, network, and assets remains a challenge. Surveillance at other locations continues while the warrant of arrest is being executed, along with a promise to intensify coordination until justice is served.
