Myanmar has strongly denied allegations of genocide against the Rohingya at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), insisting that the accusations are unfounded and not supported by solid evidence. According to the Myanmar side, the ongoing military operations are part of a legitimate counter-terrorism response to armed attacks in the Rakhine region.
The Myanmar representatives explained that the measures taken by their armed forces were aimed at state security and not at the systematic destruction of an ethnic group. They emphasized that the case should be judged on the basis of proven facts, not emotional narratives or vague descriptions of events.
Meanwhile, judges continue to review the evidence to determine whether there has been a violation of the UN Genocide Convention. While a final decision could take months or years, it is clear that it has significant implications for Myanmar's reputation and future in the international community, especially on issues of accountability and human rights.
