The Bureau of Immigration (BI) ay maglalaan ng ₱1.5 bilyon para sa pag-install ng 47 e-gates sa iba’t ibang international airports sa Pilipinas sa labas ng Metro Manila, kasunod ng paggamit nito sa NAIA.
The BI has contracted with travel technology company Amadeus for the expansion and upgrade of e-gates, including 57 biometric devices for manned immigration counters. The contract was signed on December 22, and the rollout is expected to begin next year.
The project is part of the “New Immigration” agenda, which aims to strengthen modernization, efficiency, and security while making border management more traveler-friendly. According to Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, automation is essential to support economic growth and national security.
Once implemented, e-gates will help in faster processing of travel documents, reducing queues, and more effective identification of individuals on alert lists or with suspicious activity, while officers focus on more critical duties.
