The PNP in Central Visayas conducted a surprise inspection at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail to check on Sarah Discaya and other accused in the flood control scandal. According to Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla ordered the inspection to ensure that inmates are not receiving special treatment.
Discaya and nine other accused were found in both female and male dormitories. They underwent quarantine from 5 days to 2 weeks to assess their health. Based on the report of physicians, they do not have any other diseases other than pre-existing conditions.
According to Chief Inspector Ivy Christine Maningos, warden of the female dormitory, the facility is under tight security and additional security personnel are deployed. They are also coordinating with the regional police for perimeter security.
Once the health assessment is completed, Discaya and other accused will be mixed with the general population of the prison. They will continue to be monitored to ensure the safety of all high-profile PDLs in the facility.
