Former DPWH Undersecretary Cathy Cabral may be suffering from insomnia related to depression or anxiety, according to a psychiatrist, based on drugs recovered from her hotel room in Baguio. City
According to the inventory, melatonin, lemborexant (Dayvigo), escitalopram, and quetiapine, as well as a knife and other personal belongings were seized. The PNP toxicology report also showed that he tested positive for citalopram, an antidepressant.
Dr. Randy Dellosa said that a combination of medications is commonly used for sleep disorders and mental health conditions. According to him, escitalopram is for depression, trauma, or anxiety, while quetiapine can also be used for severe insomnia.
Dellosa mentioned that having multiple sleep aids could be a sign that insomnia is difficult to treat. It's also possible that there is duplication of medication for the same purpose, an indication of a serious condition.
Cabral was reported to have died by suicide at Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet, after sustaining injuries consistent with a fall. Officials said there is no sign of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
