Meta announced that it will integrate content from major news organizations into its AI assistant to provide real-time information to users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The news was sourced from CNN, Fox News, Le Monde, People, and USA Today as part of new partnerships.
The company said this will help users access more and more diverse content sources, including direct links to partner websites. The goal is to make Meta AI more responsive, and balanced, especially for breaking news and fast-moving events.
The first batch of partners includes several mainstream and conservative-leaning publications like The Daily Caller and The Washington Examiner. Meta will continue to add new partners as competition intensifies with AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini, both of which integrate live news content.
Other tech companies also have their own media partnerships. OpenAI has deals with News Corp, Le Monde, Washington Post, and Axel Springer. Google has partnered with Associated Press, while Mistral has partnered with AFP. Meanwhile, several AI firms like Perplexity offer paid access to partnered news content.
Despite the new partnerships, several news outlets continue to file lawsuits against AI companies. This includes the New York Times's case against OpenAI over alleged unauthorized use of articles. Recently, the Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, and New York Post have also joined the lawsuits against Perplexity.
