Honda EV Outlier: New Face of the Electric Motor Future

The Honda EV Outlier Concept shows a new and unique direction for electric motorcycles. While most EV bikes today still follow the old form of gas-powered motors, the Outlier was created to explore new design freedom. Electric motor, low seat, and new proportions are some of the immediate features of this model.

Lead by Yuya Tsutsumi, the Outlier was not designed to be a production model immediately, but rather to test ideas that could be used in the years to come. It showcased a unique form that would not be possible with an internal combustion engine. The ultra-low seat, feet-forward position, and winged seatback are clear indications of a new approach to EV design.

One of the Outlier's most important features is the hub-mounted motors at the front and rear, which provide two-wheel drive. This allows it to provide independent power to each wheel, stronger acceleration, and more effective regenerative braking. There are also no chains or belts, so there are fewer parts and less maintenance.

There is a clear battery pack under the aluminum frame, and with plans to use solid-state batteries in the 2030s, a smaller but more powerful battery is possible. Although it may look small, it has enough power due to more advanced technology.

Most noticeable is the transparent bodywork, from the front fairing to the belly pan. This provides better airflow while maintaining a stylish look. The transparent fairing moves with the suspension for better aerodynamics.

Overall, the Outlier demonstrates the potential of EV tech: two-wheel drive, low center of gravity, fewer moving parts, and a more futuristic design. While it may not be available for purchase today, its ideas will surely be seen in Honda motorcycles in the next decade.
