The NBI conducted a raid on Zaldy Co's condo units in BGC to search and copy documents related to bid rigging in flood control projects. The agents carried the court inspection order from Makati RTC as they were confronted by Co's lawyers.
Using the inspection order, evidence is not taken but is only copied so that it is not lost or destroyed. The operation lasted from 8 a.m. and the PCC assisted the NBI in identifying possible evidence of collusion and prearranged bids.
According to the NBI, the raid was initiated due to testimony of whistleblowers who said that bags of kickbacks were being brought to the same address as Co. Co, a former House appropriations chair, denied the allegation and fleed the country while releasing videos against the administration.
In a separate case, 12 DPWH officials—including Region 4-B exec Juliet Calvo—appeared before the Sandiganbayan and pleaded not guilty in the P289.5M flood control project that was allegedly substandard. They were among those charged with graft and malversation through falsification.
Meanwhile, Rep. Toby Tiangco criticized the DFA for the delay in canceling Co's passport. He stressed that Co is important to the investigation especially since there is information that he may have a Portuguese passport, so action should be expedited to bring him back to the country and face the case.
