House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos has issued a statement against his aunt, Senator Imee Marcos. This comes after the latter's allegations related to drug use. According to Sandro, Imee's statements are a "web of lies" aimed at "weakening" the government for her own political ambitions.
In her speech at a large rally, Imee accused Sandro and his wife, the First Lady, of having a drug problem. She said, "'The addiction is getting worse... because they are both married." Sandro responded that these claims were "untrue" and "dangerous."
Sandro said that Imee's actions are a betrayal of their family. "It's sad to see her doing this. Running against her own family brings pain... This is not the behavior of a true brother," Sandro said. He added that Imee's children can prove that the allegations against her are "wrong."
According to officials, Imee's accusations are a "desperate move" to discredit the President's integrity. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stressed that the President has a clear record of staying away from drugs. Imee's actions were called a tactic to divert attention from the real issues.
Ultimately, Sandro said that "now is the time to work together, not to spread chaos and destabilization." Reactions from other lawmakers showed concern over Imee's allegations, which they considered unacceptable in a Filipino family.
