The release of several Japanese movies in China has been delayed, according to a report by state media, due to escalating tensions between Beijing and Tokyo.
The conflict began when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that Tokyo could intervene militarily if Taiwan was attacked. This led to summoning ambassadors and travel warnings in both countries.
China has declared that Taiwan is part of its territory and has threatened to use force to control the island. At the same time, Beijing has advised citizens to avoid travel to Japan, while Japan has warned its citizens in China to be cautious and avoid large gatherings.
According to China Film News, which is managed by the China Film Administration, the release of animated movies “Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers” and “Cells at Work!” have been delayed. They were originally scheduled to be released on December 6 and November 22.
According to the media outlet, the decision was made as a precautionary step based on market analysis and the sentiment of viewers in China. They added that Japan's provocative statement could affect Chinese audiences' perception of Japanese movies.
