Billionaire Jeff Bezos has officially entered the AI race after launching his start-up Project Prometheus, where he will be Co-CEO. This is his first major leadership role since stepping down as CEO of Amazon, showing serious intentions to take on the artificial intelligence industry.
Project Prometheus is focused on building next-generation AI models capable of providing generalized intelligence. Experts say it will compete with big names like OpenAI and Google DeepMind, using Bezos' vast resources and engineering mindset.
He will be joined as Co-CEO by Vik Bajaj, a chemist and physicist who once worked with Sergey Brin at Google X. The company has a seed fund of $6.2 billion USD, and plans to use AI to build spacecraft, vehicles, and computers.
The entry of Project Prometheus is expected to bring about a major change, especially since it now has nearly 100 employees and is still recruiting top talent from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. The company is set to release its first research goals next year.
