
The prank callers are still making bogus calls to the 911 emergency hotline despite strict warnings from the government. From Sept. 11 to Nov. 9, calls received reached 146,463, and 22,541 of these were prank calls or 15.39% of the total.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government, 911 has a geolocator so that the person making the prank call can be located. Each city also has ordinances with fines and possible jail time for prank callers.
The PNP said that while there are many prank calls, there are still many more legitimate calls. In the data, 28,423 calls resulted in immediate police response. There were also 1,941 fire incidents and 8,058 medical calls recorded.
The largest number was more than 82,500 calls related to public safety, coordination among various agencies, and non-emergency concerns. This included 7,200 calls regarding public disturbance and 7,300 related to crimes against persons.
