The government will repatriate to the Philippines 346 OFWs who were victims of human trafficking in Myanmar scam hubs.
More than 200 Filipinos in Myanmar requested repatriation in October, highlighting the scale of the problem of human trafficking and illegal scam hubs in the region.
According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, the OFWs will leave tomorrow, November 12, aboard a chartered flight from Bangkok, Thailand.
Various government agencies, including the Department of Migrant Workers and the Department of Foreign Affairs, will assist in the repatriation of OFWs. In the past two years, more than a thousand Filipinos have become victims of human trafficking.
Many of the victims were rescued from scam hubs in Southeast Asia. Myanmar is one of the places that is full of scam hubs and human trafficking operations. In October, 66 Filipinos were rescued from KK Park in Myawaddy Township, which operates like several offshore gaming hubs in the Philippines.
