
Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) caused severe damage in the Visayas and Mindanao, with 82 people confirmed dead as of Wednesday, November 5. According to the Cebu Provincial Disaster Office, 41 people died in Cebu Province — including those from Mandaue City, Compostela, Danao City, Talisay City, and Consolacion.
According to Dennis Pastor, verification of reports from various towns is still ongoing. In the town of Liloan, an additional 23 people died due to the flood. In Cebu City, Mayor Nestor Archival said that there were 12 deaths in Barangay Bacayan after the Villa del Rio I subdivision was submerged in floodwaters.
An estimated 50 to 60 houses were severely damaged, and several vehicles were overturned, trapping residents. According to Governor Pamela Baricuatro, most of the victims did not follow the preemptive evacuation before the storm hit.
Apart from these, the Office of Civil Defense confirmed the deaths of 6 soldiers after their Super Huey helicopter crashed in Agusan del Sur. The group was supposed to go to Butuan City to conduct a damage assessment.
Overall, search and rescue operations are ongoing in affected areas in Visayas and Mindanao. Thousands of families have been displaced, and the death toll is expected to rise as reports from local authorities continue to arrive.
