China's customs have seized 60,000 maps that they called "problematic" due to the mislabeling of Taiwan and the loss of islands in the South China Sea claimed by Beijing.
According to the report, the maps were confiscated from a batch of export goods in Shandong Province. It was not specified when they were seized or where they were printed....
Authorities said some maps incorrectly labeled Taiwan and did not show the “nine-dash line” that China uses to assert its territorial waters. There is also a map that does not have a line between the islands of China and Japan.
The official added that this type of map is "harmful to national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity," so it is prohibited from being exported or imported.
Historically, maps in Asia have been a sensitive issue due to differing territorial claims. Similar to previous cases where Chinese products were criticized for the “nine-dash line.”
