The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has decided to disqualify for life the license of the driver of an SUV caught with protocol plate ‘10’ and involved in a street fight in Quezon City.
DOTr Undersecretary Ricky Alfonso was riding in an SUV when his driver was caught on video arguing with a multicab. The issue has sparked more controversy online as the vehicle was also seen with illegal blinkers and wang-wang.
According to LTO, the driver surrendered his license and unauthorized parts of the SUV but failed to return the protocol plate ‘10’. As a result, the SUV was impounded and the driver's license was permanently revoked.
Meanwhile, Alfonso filed for indefinite leave while the investigation is ongoing. According to the DOTr, this is to ensure that he does not interfere in the process.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao added that it is annoying to watch the video because the driver seems to be "on fire" but cannot say where the plate '10' went. That is why license revocation and vehicle impoundment are recommended.
