The Philippines plans to use retina scan technology for bank transactions and gov’t systems, according to the DICT. This aims to make digital payment schemes more secure in the country.
According to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, World’s Orb devices will be used to identify humans versus bots. It can also be used in the government's cash aid programs to ensure that the right beneficiaries receive aid.
Aguda said the agency is already working with banks and the CICC to create an agreement that will protect people's privacy. He also said that each individual should have control over whether or not to provide their private information.
In addition, the government has intensified the fight against scams especially now that the holiday season is approaching where banking transactions and spending are increasing. AI technology will be used to more quickly detect and prevent fraud.
There is no specific date yet for the launch of retina scan tech in the country. But DICT expects it to become more commonly used as more platforms implement it. It is also free to use, and institutions only need to register with World.
