The 32-year-old rider died after being hit by a jeepney while he was taking his 29-year-old wife to work on F.S. Samano Road, Barangay 175, Caloocan City, early Saturday, September 27.
The rider died while his wife is still being treated in the hospital and needs to undergo several surgeries. The woman survived but suffered serious injuries to her arm, hip, and leg.
On CCTV, it can be seen that the jeep suddenly counterflowed and lost control until it hit the motorcycle that was in the right lane. Due to the force of the impact, the couple was thrown. The jeepney driver fled after the collision.
The rider was left orphaned by his wife and two daughters, ages 13 and 4. According to the victim's mother, the loss is very painful for the family because they no longer have a partner to support them in their livelihood. The jeepney operator has provided initial financial assistance, but it is not yet enough to cover the cost.
The police have identified the jeepney driver and will face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, Serious Physical Injury, and Damage to Property. The victims' relatives are requesting that the driver surrender so that justice can be served for the rider's death and to ease the suffering of their family.
