A 37-year-old man was arrested after crashing into a couple riding a motorcycle in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City on Friday night, September 26.
The police discovered that the motorcycle used by the suspect was stolen. CCTV footage showed that he had ridden it himself hours before the accident. The footage shows that he was not wearing a helmet and was counterflowing on the road, causing the couple to collide.
The victims were taken to the hospital for their injuries. Upon investigation at Traffic Sector 5, the real owner confirmed that the suspect's motorcycle was his and that it was stolen.
According to Police Captain Joseph Canlas, CCTV footage showed the suspect pushing a motorcycle before starting it early in the morning. The owner thought the motorcycle was borrowed by a relative, but CCTV confirmed that it was stolen.
In 2018, the suspect was implicated in a case of malicious mischief. In his defense, he said the motorcycle was only pawned to him for ₱35,000, and he denied knowing it was stolen.
He is currently in the custody of the Batasan Police and will be charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Damage to Property and Physical Injury and violation of the New Anti-Carnapping Law.
