The two Taiwanese, You-De Zeng and Hou-Lin Pan, were arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for illegal recruitment of Filipinos to scam hubs abroad.
In an operation by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), five Filipino workers were rescued. They were promised jobs as customer service representatives in Cambodia with a salary of approximately ₱58,000 per month.
But according to authorities, the jobs are fake and part of cyberfraud operations. According to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac, “The arrest of illegal recruiters and human traffickers is a clear message that we will protect Filipinos from exploitation.”
Cases of illegal recruitment and human trafficking will be filed against the two Taiwanese. Meanwhile, the government will assist rescued Filipinos who were recruited through social media and messaging apps.
DMW also assured that its steps to end recruitment schemes connected to scam hubs abroad will continue.
