Motorcycle and bicycle riders in Baguio may be required to wear reflectorized vests. This measure aims to ensure road safety, especially at night and during fog.
Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. re-filed the ordinance requiring all riders to wear high-visibility vests made of fluorescent colors such as neon green, yellow, or orange with reflective strips on the front and back. It should also provide good visibility for riders.
Once approved, it will be implemented by the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) and Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The fine is ₱500 and warning for the first offense, ₱1,000 for the second, and ₱2,000 plus impoundment of the vehicle for subsequent violations.
There are exemptions such as riders used for government, emergency response, or other purposes as determined by the City Council. To date, it has passed its first reading and is currently being reviewed by the Committee on Public Utilities, Transport, and Traffic Legislation.
The ordinance aims to reduce nighttime accidents and dangerous road conditions, and ensure the safety of motorists and visitors to the city.
