The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued subpoenas against Charlie “Atong” Ang and more than 50 others in connection with the complaint by the families of missing sabungeros. According to DOJ Spokesperson Asec. Mico Clavano, about 59 to 60 individuals were summoned for preliminary investigation.
Among those summoned were retired Police General Jonnel Estomo, former NCRPO chief, and 18 other police officers. The complaints relate to multiple murder, kidnapping with serious illegal detention, and other criminal cases filed on August 1, 2025.
It will be recalled that self-proclaimed whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan pointed to Ang, three others, and actress Gretchen Barretto as the masterminds behind the disappearance of the sabungeros. Ang and Barretto vehemently denied this. Instead, Ang filed a case against Patidongan for grave threats, slander, and harming an innocent person.
Meanwhile, the DOJ reported that new human remains were found under Taal Lake, the place Patidongan said the sabungeros were allegedly dumped after they were killed. It will be subjected to DNA testing to determine if there is a connection to the missing.
