President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to visit Cambodia from September 7 to 9, according to Malacañang. This will be his second visit to the country since he took office in 2022. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, more than ₱7,000 Filipinos live and work in Cambodia, most of them in the skilled labor sector.
Following this, Marcos will also participate in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York next month. This will be the fifth time he will attend the gathering in the United States since he became President. During his last appearance in 2022, he asserted that the Philippines is “a friend to all, an enemy to none.”
Last year, Marcos met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Melbourne, Australia. The Philippines and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on August 20, 1957.
This year, the 80th session of the UNGA has the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.” The general debate will be held from September 23 to 27 and 29, where world leaders will present their priorities and positions on important issues.
