Residents and tourists in Morong, Rizal and Mambajao, Camiguin can now make 911 emergency calls using their favorite messaging apps and social media. The new system aims to make emergency response faster and more efficient and ensure public safety.
On February 27, Mambajao began using the local 911 hotline, which is the first next-gen 911 command center in Northern Mindanao. As a result, responders can now receive calls within seconds and arrive at the scene of an incident within three to seven minutes.
Under the new platform called NEXiS Message, emergencies can now be reported not only through voice calls, but also through text, video calls, group chats, and voice calls using apps like Facebook Messenger. All messages and media go through a single secure system, making the response faster and more organized.
NEXiS Message uses strong cybersecurity protection so the details, photos, and videos people submit are safe. With a single interface, responders can see and respond to all reports, so action is faster. In addition, it is easier for citizens because they can now report using the apps they are already familiar with.
This cloud-based system is compatible with both old and new communication technologies. It is capable of handling mapping, voice recording, video, SMS, and multimedia messaging. It also facilitates coordination between different agencies for better crisis management. This is a step towards modern emergency response that was previously only seen in developed countries, but is now also in the Philippines.
