Former beauty queen Akini Arradaza, a former Miss Matag-ob, was found dead in the sea off Tacloban on August 4. The body was found in Barangay 99-Diit, Tacloban City, after a fisherman reported it.
According to the police, Akini was abducted on July 31 in Barangay Valencia, Ormoc City, by three armed men. He was captured on CCTV being forced into a black vehicle headed to Kananga, Leyte.
The body was identified based on tattoos and physical appearance. This was also confirmed by his family at the funeral home before undergoing an autopsy. Initial examination found the body naked and bloated, with the tongue hanging out, and the eyes visible. The neck, hands, and feet were tied with rope, while the face was covered with black cloth and wrapped with duct tape.
The body was found thanks to information from fellow fishermen. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was immediately notified and brought to the shore of Barangay 99-Diit. Investigations are ongoing to find the vehicle and the perpetrators.
